Ive started using DVD-RB which is my favorite program with backuping my dvd9 to dvd5,the only thing missing from it is to reduce the menu quality.
My question is: can i re-encode my menu VOB to reduce its size (i still want it animated) and place the re-encoded menu VOB in the original DVD folder and then use DVD-RB? i wont get any screwups on the final result?

Although preprocessing is frowned upon, you can use NuMenu4u or even DVD Shrink in full disk mode (no compression for everything except the menu, which you can reduce quality using the slider). As well, if there is more than 1 Language Unit, try removing the ones you don't want with PgcEdit.

And if i use for example dvdshrink to reduce that menu VOB quality,can i "throw" that vob when its done to my original dvd on my hdd and then let DVD-RB do the whole thing?

@X-guy
There'd be no need. If you set your movie and extras to "No Compression," DVD Shrink will merely copy those files over without any sort of re-compression. The only thing that will be processed would be the menus. At this stage -- in theory -- you could delete your original files if it's hard drive space that worries you. I wouldn't recommend it, since if Shrink somehow screwed something up, you'd have nothing to fall back on and would have to re-rip your disk to start over again. 99.9% of the time, Shrink creates no problems... but you know the saying about an ounce of prevention being worth a pound of flesh, right?
Anyway, just run Rebuilder on the Shrink-generated files, and you should be alright.

Yeah i tried it,i used dvdshrink without any compression on the movie itself just yanking the menu slider to the left to reduce its quality...when i moved the compressed menu VOB to my original dvd folder,the feature gets stuck when i try to select a scene...
And yeah,no worries,my original DVD is safe and sound,if something gets deleted i can always restore my original files :)
Anyway, just run Rebuilder on the Shrink-generated files, and you should be alright.
Will try that,thanks a lot.

After running shrink, there will be a full folder. DO NOT move the menu vob from this folder to the original. It won't play corectly. Just run RB on the folder output from Shrink.

Yeah Zeul i got it,running DVD-RB as we speak (done with dvdshrink already)...easy solution really,im surprised i didnt think about it.
DVD-RB would be perfect if it had this nice little feature,which i understand is in development.
Thanks a lot guys.

I have a question. Why would you prefer a horrible menu(I know that you can shrink it down to 30%) and have a great movie? With DVDShrink I know that most of the time the menu turns out like a pixelated piece of garbage and is unreadable most of the time.
I would rather use MenuShrink(thanks blutach for the link) to have some great looking stills and also have a great movie. Now I have heard NuMenu4u will compress the menus like DVD-RB does to a movie but never used it. I see menus as just a menu. Stills work and get the job done.

Actually the animated menu after shrinking it,doesn't look THAT bad,a bit pixelated thats all.

Perhaps I notice it more on my HDTV. Never tried running it through a regular tv.
