Well i got this DVD of "Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King", It has three IFO files namely VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_02_0.IFO and VTS_03_0.IFO. Now the problem is that the related VOB files to these IFO are the files of the same movie [Return of the King], I can't run the movie using PowerDVD or WinDVD .. both of them crash when i click "Play Movie"
So I copied all the VOBs to hard disk, renamed them as if they were related to VTS_01_0.IFO, but still i can't run them as single dvd, i can run them as seperate files but then there sometimes there is lag between video and sound [video being first and sound after that] .... [only using powerdvd 'file mode']
main problem is that i don't know how to rip the dvd as single movie .. dvddecrypter recognises it as seperate three PGCs ... can't get any results using vstrip ...

Also, when I try to use IFO in autogk, it only recognises first 2 Vobs ..

Hi!
That sounds rather odd. My Region 1 Disc 1 (Disc 2 is "Extras"), has only VTS_01_0.IFO and associated .VOBs (And, of course, the "VIDEO_TS.IFO").
Is yours a legitimate, commercial DVD, a "bootleg", or "something else"?

i don't know ... this has happened to me for the first time ... i bought it as a 3 DVD pack, rest two are perfectly fine ..

Perhaps you could answer a bit more clearly:
Is yours a legitimate, commercial DVD, a "bootleg", or "something else"?

Well I bought it from a "legitimate outlet" ...
I am trying to encode the vobs using GK, I hope that solves the problem

well the issue is not about the ligitimacy of DVD,
The issue is about its encode process ... well from ur comments I have a feeling that there is something wrong with it and I intend to check it with the retailer when i am free, but for the time being i was hoping if there was some other way around ..
by the way what do u mean by "bootleg"

"Bootleg" in this case would mean an illegally-produced copy.

by the way i can't understand that whay the third one, first two are perfectly fine .. but it is there ... i will see what i can do ...
thnx for the help again .. i really appreciate it ...
just if someone else encounters it .. i encoded the movie using gordianknot and it got encoded just fine ..

or you can use IFOEDIT (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Vobtools/Ifoedit0971.zip)
great tool ...
EDIT: I am quite sure IFOEDIT is a very great tool, but just for the info, i couldn't get the desired output, so don't balme me if it didn't work for you .. :sly:

@wdmalik
[Qouted] "main problem is that i don't know how to rip the dvd as single movie .."
Do you mean that you'd like to create a "movie-only" backup? Have you tried the Reauthoring mode of DVD Shrink? If so, and it didn't work, what errors did it give, if any?

well, it didn't recognise video_ts files, because VTS_02_0, VTS_03_0 and VTS_04_0 files were not integrated into it .. [strange], well i have bought a new one .. :( and it works just fine so for me problem solved though it was expensive

Why was it expensive? Didn't you just exchange the first purchase for the new ones?
wdmalik

no, i didn't .. the shopkeeper refused to take it .. it had to be replaced within 2 weeks, i was late then that ...
so i bought a new one

Did you mean to say that the VOBs associated with VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_02_0.IFO and VTS_03_0.IFO are all clones of each other? The same set of VOBs (which in turn means the movie itself) 3 times? That's weird. Quite a waste of space if that's the case. Does the movie play in a standalone DVD Player?
Can you tell us which online/brick-and-mortar retailer did you buy it from and what are the other technical specs of this DVD? NTSC or PAL? Region code?
wdmalik

no no, these are three parts, movie is divided into three parts and seperate IFO for them,
no it didn't play on any standalone DVD player ..
well does that matter .. ?, it was not an online store, it was a brick-and-mortar retailer .. :) and we don't have that strong implementation of copyright laws here ..

Ah, I see that all the time. Lot of Asian DVDs come that way with the movie split across multiple PGCs (supposedly to "thwart" the rippers hehe). What I do is to rip them to separate folders, determine the play sequence, and then rename the VOBs of PGC 2, PGC 3 etc after the same order as the ones in PGC1. Then just use the IFO of PGC1, everything will be picked up in sequence when indexing with DGIndex.

That's the problem, it just took the first three VOBS ... :(

If so, how did it work with GordianKnot? GordianKnot also uses DGIndex to index the VOBs and create the d2v.

it worked with gordianknot but had some sound/video synchronisation problem ..
about 3 secs ...
and DgIndex works on vobs input right .. ? i don't think so that it takes IFO inputs .. well i have never tried it ..

Ah yes, you are right. DGIndex when directly used (with or without GordianKnot) goes against the VOBs and everything will be indexed in sequence if they are named in sequence. When you used AutoGK and fed the IFO of PGC1 to it, it only picked up the VOBs referenced in PGC1 which are the first 3 VOBs...which brings me to my question - what did you do with IFOEdit here? You did mention it a few posts above.

i made a new IFO .. :) that covered all seven vobs,
though i was unsuccessful . but this IFO was used for [I]directly copied vobs, as IFOEDIT recognises decrypted vobs as invalid vob material,
well i tried both methods, by decrypting and by direct copy, both failed ...direct copy filed totally and decrypted couldn't cover the sound synchronisation problem
