View Full Version : One VOB corrupted - DVDShrink won't work

Hi there!

I want to backup a scratched DVD but one of the vob files is not readable completely.
There are missing only a few MBs (which would result in a negligible gap, i guess) but DVDShrink reports an error ...

What can I do?

Many thanks for good ideas!

Hi!

Try first ripping to your hard drive using DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4, set to -0- Read retries and "Ignore all read errors". This should allow you to bypass the unreadable part(s).

Then use DVD Shrink to "Open File" (NOT "Open Disk")...

Thanks for Your answer,
but do I have a chance with the truncated file?

I have ripped the dvd to my harddisk spending really a lot of time with 1000s of retries (shaking the drive and knocking it slightly) with DVDDecrypter.
Now I have one vob-file truncated by 50Mb - is there a way to continue from this point with "ignore errors"?

That wouldn't have happened if you'd followed my instructions regarding the settings...

These are two very different statements...

Simply play the ripped files from your hard drive to find out. If you find the results unsatisfactory, try re-ripping using the settings I suggested...

Thank you very much for Your help!

As I have stated above I didn't like to waste that much time again trying to get the most possible out of this dvd - yeah I did find another working solution:

1.) Open the according *.ifo with IfoEdit
2.) -> Vob Extras -> Strip Streams -> Select All -> Strip
3.) Copy the remaining *.vob, *.ifo & *.bup to the destination folder

->> now DvdShrink works, reports no error and the result is perfect!!!
