View Full Version : Smart Ripper Only Ripping Part Of The Audio........

This is a weird problem for me...

I never had a problem like this with ripping anything before.....

I rip a DVD onto my hard drive in one large file using Smartripper......

(yes I have the latest version)

When I play the file back, the background audio is fine, but the voices of the actors are missing.....

I have tried playing the file on different players, but it had the same results.....

No dialouge, but all other audio is just fine.....

I even ripped it leaving in all the options like languages, subtitles, directors comments, etc. etc.............

Now this is only one DVD and has never happend to me before....

The DVD is not scratched or cracked or damaged as far as I can see.....

when I play the DVD on my PC directly, the dialouge is right there, so I know it's not a bad press or the audio is actually missing.....

Something else that's strange to me is that all of a sudden, Smartripper seems to be showing double files when you go to select the file to be ripped....

Check out the picture below........

If you notice, program chain 1 and 2 look the same.....

It's because they are the same.....

Same format, same episode, same file, just double listed for some reason......

It's not a case where one is Tv format and one is widescreen format.....

I ripped both files and they are identical......

In the past, they would have shown up and one file or one program chain.....

I haven't installed any udates or made any changes to my PC settings.....

These DVD's are Twilight Zone episodes....

As I can afford to, I buy them one at a time, and rip them for archive....

None of the other 20 DVD's ever gave me this problem.......

Any suggestions would be most welcome.....

Thanks....

Hi!

No dialouge, but all other audio is just fine....

Would you please be good enough to post a screen grab showing the information that appears under the "Stream Processing" tab - and indicate which audiostream you selected?

It appears that the first/default audio option is a single-channel audiostream (Probably everything other than vocals - while the second stream is two-channel (Probably vocals and all others).

Try using your remote (or the DVD's onscreen "Language" or "Audio" menu) to select the second audiostream...

I'm ripping this from my NEC dvd rom drive, onto my PC, so I have no idea how to do what you suggested.....

But thanks for the quick response...........

Then try simply DE-selecting the 0x80 (Single channel) audiostream and re-rip...

OK....

I have temporarily solved the problem.....

Check this out.....

You'll notice that the acronym VBR appears at the end.......

This is not present in any of the other rips.....

When I try to play this file on WinDvd, Power Dvd, Windows Media Player, etc......

I have the same problem.....

But I remembered hearing that Media Player Classic will play anything that you can throw at it, so I downloaded it and it did indeed play ther file with all of the audio......

I am not familiar with VBR but it seems to me that the other players do not recognize it for some reason.....

So unless somebody has a better solution, I will stick with Media Player Classic for now....

I'll give that a shot right now....

Thanks....

Again (for a proper solution), I'd suggest that you try simply DE-selecting the 0x80 (Single channel) audiostream and re-rip...

Tried that just now, didn't work......

Same problem.....

Oh and I also have to say, that I had a similar problem a year ago (or maybe longer) where some rips would only play the audio on Power DVD or Win Dvd, but not both.....

This forced me to label all of my ripped files accordingly.....

But upgrades to both programs solved that problem.....

And in that case, the entire audio track would not play.....

In this case, the audio plays fine, just the dialouge between the actors is missing......

Which is a somewhat bizzare experience.....

Watching the video and hearing the music score, and all the other sounds that you find in any video, but hearing nothing when the characters actually speak....

If you're curious enough, rip each of the audiostreams separately to determine which one includes the vocals, then rip videostream separately, then use VirtualDubMod (or other software) to multiplex and save...
