Knoppix Live CD/DVD are great for utility work, but for multimedia?? Isn't Mediain Live CD (with Jahshaka, Kino, Stepmotion, LiVES, Audacity, Cinepaint, etc ...) superior for multimedia? And I believe dynabolic Live CD has Cinelerra and Lives, which also would make it superior for multimedia?

So, please, what specific multi-media packages do you find on Knoppix Live DVD that you like?

I usualy use Knoppix for backup after a windows crash. I did not yet try to playback media yet. But, whatever the bundeled stuff, mplayer is my player of choice :)

But is mplayer on the Knoppix Live CD and Live DVDs?

According to distrowatch, it is not.

I can't recall myself, and I'm not overly keen on rebooting my PC (to my copy of the Knoppix live DVD) to find out. From what I recall, instead, for multimedia, Knoppix has X Multimedia System (xmms) an MPEG-video, MP3, Ogg Vorbis Audio player and xine.

Of course, being debian based, one can presumeably use apt get to obtain packages one wants. To quote onlamp.com:

Knoppix 4.0 includes UnionFS as well, so if Knoppix somehow doesn't have the software you need included on the DVD, you can use either the KPackage or Synaptic graphical packaging tools, or apt-get from the command line to install directly to the ramdisk just like with an installed Linux distribution. To save any changes you have made, click "K->Knoppix->Configure->Create a persistent KNOPPIX disk image" and follow the directions in the wizard to save the changes to writeable media like a usb drive.Still, this is a Doom9's Forum, where the subject of the forum is to support those interested in DVD conversion. ... As much as I may like Knoppix, I think more clarification is useful to understand how it is a good linux OS for DVD conversion.

(Edit1: Below is link to a URL, where it is noted that Knoppix can be used for DVD creation, but only after running apt-get).

One neat thing about Knoppix live CD, is it can be modified with different packages, and then recreated as a live CD.

Do you know any creations of a Knoppix CD that has been optimised for Multimedia?

For example, here is a link to a softpedia post by someone who has purportedly created a multi-media variant of Knoppix. I haven't tried/burned this live CD this myself, mainly because the download speed was incredibly slow. So slow in fact I gave up trying to download the live CD.
