I bought Final Fantasy Advent Children from Japan and i wanted to archive it and keep the dvd safe, no matter what program i use (autogk, gk, virtualdub, nero recode) or codec (xvid, x264, divx 6pro, nero digital) i cant get any sort decent quality out of it, i get results ranging from really blurry to really blocky aiming for 700mb and even 1400mb. Beginning to annoy me now.
So to my question, does anyone know of any way i can get a decent quality encode of Advent Children?

xvid did a nice job at 700MB. I mean not perfect but I found that it was watchable and the difference was not signifigantly noticeable.
x264 would to an even nicer job of it if you use high profile with some of the advanced features. Perhaps I'll make that my first encode with my brand new PC =D

Denoising and/or lowering the resolution always helps, of course. As well, the defaults for most codecs are a middling tradeoff between quality and speed, if you want to pull out all the quality you can get from them you need to be ready to burn extra hours in encoding time.
