I recently purchased an ATI x800 to use the component output on my 53" widescreen TV. As I live in the US there are no current Nero Digital stand alone players yet.

I downloaded a HD profile trailer, The greatest game ever played, and it stutters like mad. I can play up to 720p no problem. This is the only HD 1080p trailer I could find.

I think my specs should be fine for playback

AMD XP 3000+
Asus A7N8x 2.0
2GB DDR 400 ram
ATI x800 XL

I can play all ND conent I have created which is quite awesome on my HDTV.

I did search but only found this post [ http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=92077 ] which only suggests DRM might be an issue. But I can't fathom why the hell somoene would apply DRM to a trailer.

Any suggestions?

It has nothing to do with drm, your PC simply isn't fast enough to decode 1080p contents. Decoding AVC at high resolution / bitrate is highly cpu intensive (much more than other codecs like mpeg-4 asp, mpeg-2, etc).

try using vlc to play the vid..it is less cpu intensive

Hi,

I have done many testencodes and measured the decoding speed of my a64 3200. With 1080p you will get some problems a)if the bitrate is to high b) when the loop filter is activated. with an small bitrate under 3mbps and without loopfilter you have decoding rates about 32 fps with mplayer.

I think I must be nearly the same with your PC. But you will have no great chanche with other players like nero and so on. they are to slow.
