AnimeLQ = Fails
Yes, it works just fine because I was able to play the avisynth file that was created by RA (with AnimeLQ).Does AnimeLQ work or not?

yupp... and it's definitely a style issue... changing to windows default one resolves that issue.

if you'd like to test my xp_style (http://www.crystalxp.net/galerie/en.id.100.htm)

Does not.k. I'll make tests and post a small update.

I don't have StyleXP.

me nether, if you mean one of the latest versions... :o

but I have the latest freeware of it... install it and than double click on Crystal dlb 2.msstyles in the folder to change your style... you don't have to like it as it is only intended for you for testing :)

I've made a small package for you, you'll find it here (http://s30.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2KLQQSW5IK8VY3N00V8BXI9DRH).

Sorry, I don't want install StyleXP on my WS. Less things, more stable XP. I'll check about those 2 checkboxs in any case.

Shrug. Might be my source.
Also, RA failed to encode the 3rd pass. Yep, a lot of time was lost.
Here is a VERY nice picture of what appears when trying to play the avisynth file:
http://www.eluni.net/Access_Violation.JPG
Playing the video itself works just fine.

Can you repost 1.avs? Try upgrading to a newer version of AVISynth.

Eretria-chan

Same as before. But without the filters msmooth and animelq. I deleted all the files.
Newer version of avisynth? I'll try.
Errrr, btw, where? There are so many topics of avisynth and the "official" page only carries old versions.

Sirber

no new version :(

Maybe your system is unstable. Did you installed my version of ffdshow? Which decoder is used to decode your source?

Unstable? Yesssssssssss... very old, this system is (windows installation, that is). I ticked ALL the checkboxes, so don't worry - yes I installed your ffdshow version. FFDShow is not decoding xvid (which the source is encoded with), instead I have xvid codecs installed.

Sirber

Can you set ffdshow to decode xvid?

Sirber

@sillKotscha

The two checkbox are similar to other nearby. Nothing I can do.

Eretria-chan
28th February 2006, 00:22
Can you set ffdshow to decode xvid?
I could, but I doubt it would do anything. Nevertheless, I will try it.
I don't think I will be encoding anything more tonight, but I will try tomorrow!

Sirber
28th February 2006, 00:42
If DirectShowSource crash, it can be the decoder. Here I use only ffdshow and it work #1.

Eretria-chan
28th February 2006, 00:48
Well... that is a tough spot.
It does not crash. Save for when I used both denoise filters. And libavcodec introduces artifacts in one of my movies (in ogg container), so I rather also not use it.

I never said I would not try it. :sly:
But what if it does not work?
I will have a go with your newest version, though, to be sure that it is not solved already.

No it is not :p The goal of the developer is to make sure the user is happy with the program! That is, do not limit the user to what he or she may do with it.

...No, it does not. This time it generated the xml-file. I will try once more with the source, although it is without filtering this time, and see what happens.

Sirber

Filtering is external to RealAnime.
RealAnime only monitor launched softwares, like x264.exe.

if RealAnime crash, It can only be from himself OR attached DLLs, like MediaInfo.dll.

Hi,

I'd like to know the version of the MediaInfo.dll (it should be 0.7.1.2) if not, i suggest you to backup the XML file (for setting) than erase the realanime folder and freshly reinstall realanime 4.0.2 ...

I currently testing different scenarios that could cause problem when we hit X .... for now every one of them pass without any errors... hope to find one

[EDIT]

For now everything is ok... if i press X during encoding audio ... the file continue to encode video without problem.. and if i press stop after it close without any error. If i press X after the video has start encoding and stop after it close without error. the only thing that is remaning is that X is pressed during the encode and continu to encode without stopping it (maybe it will cause a error during the encode). I'll test it tonight ... encoding take time :(

I'll keep you informed... we will take a look to disable X during the encode so that it wont be able to press it :D

Why the drag & drop feature is not the same as "Add" function? Just curious about this. :sly:DragDrop look for file extension, not Add yet. I did not spend too much time on that, IMO the rest is more important ;)

Eretria-chan
28th February 2006, 17:42
Well, some good news at least. This time it worked - no crashes. The quality looks pretty good, but on fog scenes or scenes where there is much blur, you still see many blocks.
Also pausing at some places in the movie can show you smoothed out details. But that can't be helped, I guess...

Sirber
28th February 2006, 17:50
x264 save bits where it can. Fog and dark is the best place for that. To remove blocks set filtering to +2 or stronger.

What are the rez, the content type and the video bitrate you asked for?

Eretria-chan
28th February 2006, 17:52
Default. All the default settings.
Hmmm, more deblocking...

Eretria-chan
28th February 2006, 21:01
Sirber, a question:
What processor do you have? I was working on the upgrade program, but with my advanced techniques, it is incredibly slow, and as such I am trying to use the best and latest technology possible.

And how many hours per day do you actually spend at your computer? Concider it... statistics, these questions ;)

Sirber
28th February 2006, 21:33
I have an AMD64 3000+ running in 32bit mode.
I spend around 10h per day on my computer (work or home), but home PC is online all day long.

What is your "advanced technique"?

Eretria-chan
28th February 2006, 21:41
My advanced techniques is mostly this...
First, the basic technique is to compare files byte per byte and save the address of the mismatch byte and the new byte to be written at that address. However, for each mismatch byte, FIVE bytes need to be written to the file (4 bytes for the offset and one for the byte itself). To compensate for this, I made an enhancement. It only writes the actual length of the address (1, 2 or 4 bytes depending on the size, ie 255, 65535 or bigger), and at the beginning write how many of each there was to reduce size. But this wasn't enough...

So I added an advanced technique that would allow it to search further in the file when a mismatch byte was found, to see if it can find a similar set of bytes in another position in the file. That way, it could save information that it could be found in another part of the file, the offset and the number of bytes.

Eventually, I might also program it to add a command to "skip" a number of bytes from the offset so it might continue a byte offset.

So that say, if the original file contains 0x01, 0x02, 0x03, 0x04 and 0x05, then it could search in the other file and fine 0x01, 0x02 and skip one byte to also find 0x03, 0x04 and 0x05.

Problem is - this is incredibly slow. Even for a ~200 kb file! Imagine what the speed will be when comparing megabytes of files!
I have currently re-written two functions in pure assembly, yet it is still slow. So I plan to take advantage of SSE (3/2), 64-bit (more storage size plus extra registers) and even dual core (half processing in one thread; half in another).

Sirber
28th February 2006, 22:04
ooook!

Is there a link with video compression?
Is there a link with RealAnime?

Eretria-chan
28th February 2006, 22:07
Well, use it to compress your upgrades. That means people won't have to download 20 mb each time you release a new version, which you do seem to do frequently.

Sirber
28th February 2006, 23:55
Ha! You are working on a lossless file compression! :)
Is it better than 7zip? (LZMA)

Eretria-chan
1st March 2006, 00:00
It works to modify file X to be equal byte-per-byte with file Y.
That way, you can easily make an "upgrade package" which the users download and run. It will automatically patch the the version on the system to the version you have compared it to.
In sense, it is not a compression system, but it will give you a very small package (hopefully) to patch all your files to their current versions.

nm

Binary diffs can be done efficiently and there are many open source implementations available. Certainly worth looking around before making your own algorithm. Just google for "binary diff" and behold :)

Sirber
1st March 2006, 00:05
So it's a "patch maker" my keeping the modifications! :D
Can it work on myltiple files? Can it detect "moved" datas?

Eretria-chan
1st March 2006, 00:35
It is intended to work on multiple files.
I have no idea what you mean with "moved" datas. But it will examine ALL the files, one by one, byte per byte, and take note of the differenece and store that information so that it can later patch those files to be the same, byte per byte.

I have one, but it isn't finished yet...
Since the reworking in assembly, all functions are not finished yet, nor is all the advanced stuff. And you can't choose filenames and it only works on one file ^^"
I'm putting a little on hold 'til I get my new processor so I can start optimizing it more. But if you still want my pre-wip build, then I can hand it to you...

Or, the source.

Or, the source.I could simply do a self-extracting RAR or 7zip... ;)
If it takes the same time to make the diffs than to download the 24Mb file... ;) lol

What was your point?

Sirber

usualy no need of a 24MB update. I can RAR the new files and make it autoextractable and be under 1MB. That's all.

Riiiiiiiight...
This program is aimed to make incredibly small files. And what if someone upgrades from an old version? You keep updating ffdshow, x264 and so on, so it usually becomes pretty big each time.

And this is something I have been thinking of doing for some time. You can just be the one who makes sure it works alright :p

Just in case if you didn't notice my previous post, good algorithms really do miracles. Take a look at bsdiff (http://www.daemonology.net/bsdiff/) before optimizing an inefficient one.

one thing i found strange

you know how realanime is "always on top"

after i encoded about 10+ episodes, it wouldn't stay on top anymore

not that i have a problem with it, just wanted to let you know

Sirber

Wierd. Did you try to start a new realanime while RA4 was minimized?

I'm gonna post 4.0.3 tonight (as a small update).

Added:
* Handled profiles
* x264 iPod profile
* Filtering helper (rez and FPS).
* Bitrate defaults for video codecs under profiles

This is work in progress. iPod profil should work. Pocket PC and PSP has not been tested yet. In 4.1.0 filtering will be "auto". Auto resize and add border to fit device rez. This build will not be release public, since it needs testing :)

I suggest 1-pass CQ40 @medium with x264 for anime content on iPod.

Comments are welcome :)

Hmmm...
I extracted a stream out of a mkv clip using vdubmod and then encoded it with RA. I got major desync of the audio. I wonder if it was a good idea to do that?
But the clip (the one I extracted and encoded) DID work fine before I encoded it.

Is this my fault, or RA's fault?
I also remember vdubmod to actually warn me that it might contain variable frame rate.

EDIT:
I tested with mkvtoolnix too. I split the files and encoded - same result. Unless I am not doing this the right way, it is a bug in RA or something like that.
I get desync of the audio. At first, it is too late, then it is too soon.

Oh, also, I tried to mux an ogg stream into mkv and use RA to compress it. It worked just fabolus! Who said you can't use RA as an audio encoding tool? ;)

Sirber

Best feed your MKV directly to RealAnime. Also, RealAnime supports OGMs... ;)

Eretria-chan
4th March 2006, 01:21
The thing is I just want a specific portion of the file, so that's why I'm clipping it...
Oh, I forgot ogg is actually a container. Ahahaha... I thought it was just a music file that had to be put into a container to work properly with encoding tools.

Sirber

.OGG will be threated as audio.
.OGM as multi-track.

Eretria-chan
4th March 2006, 01:23
Yes, anyway, do you have any idea on the desync? I mean, that clip was like 45 mb :/ While after encoded with RA, it is like 5 mb, so I really want to encode it.

Sirber
4th March 2006, 01:28
I have no idea about the delay. I don't recommend the use of VDubMod with RealAnime. Best encode the whole thing, then cut the output with mkvmerge.

Eretria-chan
4th March 2006, 01:29
Ahhh, takes too long :/
I even tried to split it with mkvmerge, but the same thing happened.

what's the Info of the source?

BoostAddict

maybe its the fps error i had earlier? or did you already fix that sirber? you said it was a mediainfo error

Sirber
4th March 2006, 02:25
Fixed in 4.0.2 (or .1?)

The FPS error was that I was unable to get it, so RealAnime forced 23.976 (and source was 29.96 FPS).

I tested your 4.0.3, the program crashed when it gonna merged the sub with the mp4 file. I used the Ipod profile with 1passCQ since your reccommended it for anime :P.

I checked the files in the temp folder. The video came out with alot of blockiness, well I don't know how it will turn out in the Ipod screen. Maybe I'm gonna try 3pass next time? Well, GOOD JOB WITH THIS PROGRAM,It is useful for me since my other Ipod Converter does'nt work with MKV files :P:P:):):).

Fixed in 4.0.2 (or .1?)

The FPS error was that I was unable to get it, so RealAnime forced 23.976 (and source was 29.96 FPS).
Perhaps it is because the source was variable framerate? I don't know how to post info of a clip.

baosen, mp4box doesnt support .ass subs input

if you want to author advanced subs use mpeg-4's own format: .ttxt

Sirber

iPod doesn't support soft subs, you will have to hardsub them.
RealAnime 4.1.0 and later will do that automaticly.

XviD / vorbis...

well, I duno :) You can fix the delay with mkvmerge (or the GUI in Tools tab) after your encode.

Eretria-chan
4th March 2006, 15:31
There are two problems:
First I see that the source has 29.970 fps, and in the avisynth file I see:

DirectShowSource("C:\My Installed Apps\RealAnime 4\temp\video_0.mkv", fps=29.9699993133545)
AssumeFPS(29.9699993133545)
NiceFPS()

Not 29.970 that is. That is a guess.
Secondly, the audio is out of sync - first it is delayed - then it is too soon! So adding a delay will not help.

Sirber
4th March 2006, 15:33
The FPS I use is the real one. "29.970" is rounded.

Can I have your file?

Eretria-chan
4th March 2006, 15:38

whats the sense in using such an insane framerate and after that nicefps???
this will only produce files with strange framerates signalled (eg not playable in quicktime)

simply use
assumefps(24000,1001)
for getting the exact framerate you want...

sirber, most of my earlier (rc3) bugs reports are still there

for example the video.mkv.mkv.mkv's issue

if u wanna dig a bit on those bugs, i can recheck them all with 4.0.5 :)

@sany

Is audio.mp4.wav in the temp folder? Why do you use AVS input?

sany
6th March 2006, 18:01
I'll check that right away, and I'm using .avs as input cause I want to add a pic at the begging of the video + I'm also using avisynth overlay function( I power up the video :) )

Checked it:
There's an .avs file in the Real Anime 4 temp but I think that's a remainder of an aborted but succesfully started reencoding (the one when I killed the audio).

[edit]

Why do you encode your source (MP3 @128kbps) to MP3 @128kbps again?

sany
6th March 2006, 19:45
Well umm, didn't want to fuss about killing audio than adding a 128@ mp3 audio to the silent reencoded video with mkv mux(I don't know yet any other way, if there is please tell me), your software can encode audio with the video so I didn't even think about that(I'm still new in the business, so this might have been a bad idea?)

Note: the source isn't mine I acquired it.Also at my friend the whole stuffs seems to run smoothly that's what really frutrates me(he's lazy and it's hard to make him to do the encodings for me :) )

Moreover if you think you ran out of ideas don't worry about it too much I'll just reencode the videos silently and use mkv mux to add audio.

Sirber
6th March 2006, 19:58
it's still a bug ;)

my point is it's pointless to recode a 128kbps MP3 into the same thing. You will get the same bitrate, but quality will be lower. Currently RealAnime can't keep original audio from AVS source. Best do it silently and merge at the end.

sany
6th March 2006, 20:06
Ok, I'll go with the silent video then, and again many thanks for trying to help.(Now that you mentioned that about the bit rate of the audio I don't know why I didn't do that way from the start, I mean going with silent video and then adding audio)

And about the bug: well maybe it only occurs by me, which would really suck(I mean I don't want to suffer alone :D )

Sirber
6th March 2006, 20:09
What settings are you using for video? What final filesize do you aim for?

sany
6th March 2006, 20:15
I'm aiming for about 190Mb 3pass high quality x264 and 928 bitrate(used bitrate calculater you have in RealAnime 4 to figure out bitrate). Filtering is checked in and is set to +1(altough I don't know what that function is for, it was set there as default)

Sirber
6th March 2006, 20:22
Are you aware that your output file will be about 85MB bigger than your source? What's the goal of making bigger files?

sany
6th March 2006, 20:28
I know, that's not the point, well it's psychology most people think the bigger the better :D .

Anyways I know I won't gain extra pixels just because the file size get's bigger, but still there should be some quality increase, no? (I honestly ask this 'cause I'm really new in this stuff)

What would you suggest I mean for settings and for final filesize?

Sirber
6th March 2006, 20:34
Quality can't increase. You are going from a loosy source to another one.

I'd suggest using RealAnime defaults ;), but it will output a ~60MB file (if you encode audio at 32kbps).

But hey! Do as you wish :p

Eretria-chan
6th March 2006, 20:38
3 pass high is going to cripple your computer, is it not? There is not many processors that can process high profile fast.

sany
6th March 2006, 20:39
Well, thanks I'll think about it(and as a compromise only make a file about 150MB :D ).

Off: Anyway it was nice talking to you, and thanks for your opinion, I gotta finish now 'cause my mom wants to "use" the PC, (aka wants to play on it) oh, this parental terror :D .

And about the bug: well maybe it only occurs by me, which would really suck(I mean I don't want to suffer alone :D )

Actually I am having the same problem. I tried a whole bunch of different source files but was able to reproduce the error every time with avs files. I did a bit of testing here and there and found that avs2wav.exe is not working at all, it is actually just erroring out, but RA is not logging the error
If I manually run the "C:\Program Files\RealAnime 4\\bin\avs2wav.exe" "D:\AviSource\AVS_Files\sample2.avs" "C:\Program Files\RealAnime 4\temp\audio.mp4.wav" command listed in the log I get a error "Unable to Locate componet - This application has failed to start because MSVCR70.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application mayt fix the problem."

I have tried reinstalling several times but it has not fixed anything so far. I thouhg this was odd because rc3 worked just fine for me eariler.

I even went so far as to search my system for the file and try to regsrv32 it but that did not work at all. The file with that name I found was in C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705

I just kinda assumed something with my .NET framework was fried. I went so far as to manually try and reinstall it but it was to no avail.

I actuallyt would have reported this a bit earlier but it seems you have to wait a week after signing up to doom9 before you can post. ~.~

PS. My desired output is actually mp4 with xvid and mp3, I know what I am tring to do is not exactly within the ideal scope of the software but honestly there is not any other \"decent\" batch software that can output video wachable on my set-top mp4 player\divx (which sadly is so retarded if i don't add a border to my video it will cut off the subtitles)

After copying both msvcr70.dll and msvcp70.dll from C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705 avs2wav.eve finnally started working as desired.

But I seem to be having a all new very weird problem. Here are the settings I used.
Profile: Normal
Container: MPEG-4
Video
Codec: XviD
Quality: High
Mode: 2 pass VBR
bitrate: 900
Audio
Codec: MP3
Bitrate: 128

The video and audio reencoded just fine but it output a perfectly fine .mkv file without any warning or error save the weird messages at the bottom of the log. Again I tried this with a few AVS files and some raw .AVI files as well.

Here is the log export

I'm gonna try 2 pass now, vs 3
to see if I can save time there whitout compromizing the quality much.

Sirber
8th March 2006, 14:42
I'm thinking about reducing the number of bframes from 3 to 1. It seems they hurt more the quality than do good. I'll also check Trellis for High Quality profile by default.

Danisan
8th March 2006, 15:06
So the default setting will still be 3p but with 1 bframes instead of 3 in future versions? Did 2p at medium reduce the quality too much?

I've only tested 2p with short samples. Didn't notice much quality difference with those.

Sirber
8th March 2006, 15:16
I made a full encode at 2p 3bf but I can't check it since I'm at work.
I'm currently making a 2p 1bf. I will post all files (60MB each) so people will be able to comment on the quality and help me make the best default settings.

Source is One Piece 176.

Sirber
8th March 2006, 23:50
Well, seems the source is crap and lack bitrate on those parts.

In any case, next build will have more tweaks and should have same quality but on 2 pass instead of 3.

Danisan
9th March 2006, 09:56
I did a wee comparison between Medium 3 pass with 1 bframes and 2 pass with 1 bframes. Bitrate and other settings are at their defaults. I used x264 rev. 357.

Source (http://gensou.org/danisan/rec/%5bAyu%5d_Rec_-_03.avi)

Medium 2 Pass 1 bframes (http://gensou.org/danisan/rec/%5bAyu%5d_Rec_-_03_%5b2PB1%5d.mp4)

No offense, but do you have to leave me with no option but to rely on your experience/judgement regarding B-Frames ?
Yes!

Have a read here and learn how to use it! Or leave the default (3). It's in advance section, if you don't feel confortable with advanced stuff, just leave it like it is and only use "basic". I already set a ton of parameters for each codec that you have no control over, which are set by the Quality menu.

I'm thinking about reducing the number of bframes from 3 to 1. It seems they hurt more the quality than do good.

hmmm.... y'know, a good-old-fashioned checkbox before the "B-Frames" field (so that users who don't want to mess with those advanced settings, don't have to) wouldn't hurt.

For every bitrate there's an optimum resolution. High bitrates are a waste when paired with low resoutions and 640/480 isn't the best resolution for a video clip with only 224kbits/sec to spare... It would be great if RealAnime had a feature to set the most appropriate resize parameters for a given bitrate. For example, automatic resizing to 320x240 for encode bitrates around 200, and only if source is equal to or greater than 320x240.

anne_so78

Are you telling me that a video bitrate of 210 optimally requires a resolution of 512x384 ? Thats insane. It should be around 320x240. Believe me, I've experimented. Maybe you're talking about only cartoon/anime encodes. But with non-cartoon material at bitrates of around 200, resolutions over 320x240 definitely compromise the video. Encodes seem overly "blocky" or something... There's a formula to calculate the optimum resolution for any given bitrate. This particular formula is used in Gordian Knot (incorrect values turn red, suggesting you to either increase bitrate or reduce resolution).

more encodes than not, are non-cartoon.

APPEAL TO THE MASSES!!!

if you are adamant about anime-friendliness, then maybe you could add two options when it comes to automatic-resizing, one for anime, the other for non-anime. No such feature is way better than disproportionate resolutions for non-anime content...

will there be another version where the subs will be hardcoded for profiles such as psp and ipod?

edit:
I'm trying to add in subtitles via avisynth
here's the code im using...im not very good at scripting so take it easy on me
# RealAnime 4
LoadPlugin ("C:\Program Files\RealAnime 4\avs\VSFilter.dll")
AVISource("C:\Encoding Samples\Track1.avi")
TextSub("C:\Encoding Samples\Track3.ass")

it works great :D

Where did all those resize filters go (bicubic, lanczos etc)? Which resize filter is 4.1 using by default? You haven't included any of those suggested typo corrections, have you? hmmm... The last time I calculated the bitrate using RealAnime's bitrate calculator (4, RC3) the estimate was annoyingly off-mark. RealAnime promised 698 MB, and it ended up with 703 MB !! After adding few other stuff on the cd compilation, the only way I could burn was to enable "over-burning" which I did hesitantly... I hope your bitrate calculator has been updated since...

whats the best audio encoding setting to use with RV10 on RA4.1

Sirber
13th March 2006, 13:06
@BoostAddict

Not sure if I will add hardsub to RealAnime. I'm not investing more time on it.

@anne_so78

RealAnime 4.1 uses Bicubic. The Bitrate calculator doesn't count the Container size.

@killerhex

MKV or RMVB? For RMVB you have to stick with AAC HE. For MKV, use what you want. I suggest you use x264 though.

The Bitrate calculator doesn't count the Container size.
If it don't count the container, it ain't a bitrate calculator...

Sirber
13th March 2006, 14:24
It calculate the video bitrate. I don't care about container overhead.
You are free to use any other bitrate calculator or get the source and add the container overhead (MKV, MP4 and RMVB).

killerhex

i use mkv container with RV10 video codec

anne_so78
13th March 2006, 15:24
It calculate the video bitrate.
And what good is that for?
I don't care about container overhead.
Quote that within the program. Warn users that the bitrate calculator will always underestimate file sizes. Nobody wants to find that out after 36 hours of encoding. Your program outputs videos wrapped in a container. If you don't care about container overhead, maybe you shouldn't include your bitrate calculator in the program. It is very misleading ...

The given bitrate fit for anime content, which is 24 minutes. Any other uses is at your discretion.

A non "RealAnime" question, but does PSP support any softsub from the mp4 video files? IF it does, what are the format?
(and btw, did I hear something about this program will hardsub the extracted subtitle(s) from the source in the output from now on?)

Sirber

@XH42

As far (or short ;)) as I know, handled doesn't support softsubs.

@^_^x

This could be added*, but I don't see the goal. In the meantime, chose keep track #8. If it'S not found it's not kept.

Thanks Sirber. One more question, what resolution will RealAnime resize the video in the PSP Profile into? Will it resize it to the PSP LCD Screen Resolution (Heard it was 480x272), or will it resized it to the same as the NERO Recode 2 'PSP Profile' (320x240, 160x112. Which are not widescreen settings)?
Sorry for the extra post.

Sirber

RealAnime reach one of the border while keeping the AR.

iPod: 320x240
Pocket PC: 320x240 @ 12FPS
PSP: 480x272

As for PSP, width will never be more than 480 while height will nevber be more than 272. RealAnime doesn't add black borders to fill it to full rez. Please gives us some feedback if you encode something. I'm too poor to own a PSP ;)

Video codec:RV10
Audio Codec: AAC HE
Audio Bitrate:48kbps
Video Bitrate:368kbps
1-Pass
Quality:High
original size:350mb
output size:70mb

takes too long on my comp will try it toniteIn 2pass mode, the first one is in "fast first pass mode", so the total encoding time in not 2x, more 1.3x. If not, then it's a bug in RealAnime 4.

What is actually typically required to get x264 to run at decent speeds at medium quality? Even an athlon 64 x2 3800+ (cpu utilization is typically around 95%) is not really enough, as it gives about 7-8 fps. It's currently clocked at 2.1 ghz, not near its maximum potential yet.
Wonder if it is possible to aquire the 64-bit version of x264 and merge it with RA? Although the latest 64-bit is probably old by now...

Well, you have 64-bit build on http://omion.dyndns.org/x264x64/452-omion.rar

Sirber
15th March 2006, 00:10
On my AMD64 3000+ (32bit), I get 7-8FPS in second pass at Medium.
Try the Medium quality setting. You should get 12-15FPS on your CPU.

a 64bit build will do no good if you don't have Windows XP64, Avisynth64, ffdshow64 and other 64bit apps needed to run them. Also, x264 can't use MMX in 64bit mode IIRC, so it might just run slower than the 32bit version.

Eretria-chan
15th March 2006, 09:16
I use default settings, but still I get around 25 fps on first pass and around 8 on second pass.
* Shrugs *
Will try again tonight...
x264 is a hungry beast :p
Oh... maybe the animeLQ filter is slowing it down! I forgot about that one. Maybe I should turn it off and see what happens. But on a high resolution, noise become so visible :/

Sirber
15th March 2006, 12:59

Eretria-chan

No, just animeLQ. That's all! I swear!
Besides, when I "filtered like crazy" was just for testing purposes.
