So ....

If using nero recode to produce a 720p file from a 1080i source should you check the "deinterlace" box or not?

With an AVS script (and appropriate flagged material) you would use a DECOMB filter to get 24FPS for the 720p - is nero doing this automaticaly?

There was a good and simple faq HDTV 2 XviD.
http://www.samek.neostrada.pl/hdtv/hdtv2xvid.htm
Also valid for AVC

My question was not about XVID (autogk does this all for us all) but whether the Nero Recode APP with HDTV AVC DOES the same fuction as AutoGK.

1. Does it decide if film and if not film deinterlace? Looks like no
2. If you check deinterlace will you get 24FPS (from film) or 29 with out a teclide?

Basically if you copy a DVD to XVID it will make the correct choices for you - does recode 6.6 do the same?

My answer was not about Xvid

The guide is not about nero recode.

My question is simple - when do you need to force deinterlace and does this nero recode to teclide to get 24 FPS automatically

It should do it automatically. The advanced analysis which is enabled by default when you import files should recognize telecine and interlaced content.

So I checked in Zoomplayer ...

When using a DVD source (VOB) it does correctly see the 24FPS and teclide so playback is correct.

However, on the HDTV 720p sources or 1080i - despite being flagged as film - it does NOT work. You get 29.996FPS progressive. You can see the "extra frame" in zoomplayer :)

Weird. This was fixed some time ago and last time I checked it was ok..
If you have the latest version, can you upload a VOB clip for me to an FTP (I'll give you the addy if you can upload)

Sure - can you send me an upload link in email and I will show you (Battlestar OTA HDTV is a prime example)
