I just installed a fresh copy of XP, nero, and wnated to try NR on my new X2 system. Well, after about 1 minute it crashes with

nendvid.ax error.

Google.com finds nothing other then this is the directshow filter for the encoder. AVC files PLAY fine - I just can't encode them.

Using HDTV AVC (HDTV Source)

Have you done the usual prime95 and memtest86 stress testing first? Are there any X2-related bios updates for your machine? And is yours a Shuttle, which have had numerous problems with X2 crashes?

Prime95 isn't mulrithreaded; try firing up two copies for a real test. (I'm not sure how to set affinity so the context switches aren't overwhelming, but whatever.)

I have an ASUS MB SLI Deluxe, latest bios etc. XVID encoding is just fine, prime 95, games, etc. So far very impressed by the stability.

Are there known problems with Nero and X2 systems (ABSPC.com)

Good, it just helps to get all that out first. I assume this happens no matter what clips you choose? Oh, and this is the first avc recode, not the beta currently out for the new one, right? Hmm, can the captures (avi or raw mpeg2?) be opened fine in other applications?

I haven't seen anything specifically related to nero+x2 here.

This is on the latest version 6.0611 from a few days ago (also happend on 603.11 from 1 monht ago).

I made sure the nero filters are default
tried a BUNCH of HDTV clips - even those i had previously ran.

x264 runs fine

So I have done some researching - seems like this is a very common problem with recoode and AVC on X2 systems:

#1. I can run Prime95 (2 copies) for days - no problems
#2. I can encde x264 (just getting started - got NO SOUND on my first attempt) and AutoGK all HDTV 100% cpu for days.
#3. NRecode crashes on any clip - HD or not - with AVC profile after a few minutes in the first pass. 1 pass encoding works FINE.

SO ....

I set the "affinity" of the recode app to 1 CPU. It has just completed the first pass of a enterprise episode. Others have noticed this as well.

ANyone try recode, AVC, x2 systems?

Had the same problem with my X2 and nero while processing any file to AVC format.
Only solution I found that worked was to go into Task Manager and set the Recode to only use one core.

Set affinity to CPU 0, everything works fine. Applies to all Nero products.

Thanks - I am not crazy. I was worried somethign was wrong with my new system but everything works so well (x2 4400 + 2GB RAM )

For 1080i ->720p with recode should you "deinterlace" or not??
