May belong in the NLE forum however since it has to deal with H.264 AVC, I thought it was appropriate to post here.
Sony Vegas 6c nows allows AVC/AAc encoding from the timeline. Current implementation limits it to 800x800 resolution which hopefully will be increased with the next update. Nontheless, its about time a major NLE offered AVC/AAC as an ouput option.

Is it Sony's own AVC codec, or did they license someone's? (Sorenson?)

In the MCMP4 folder, these dlls are confirmed
aacadec.dll
libmmd.dll
aacaenc.dll 1.0.0.1 MainConcept MPEG-4 AAC audio encoder
mp4plug.dll 1.0.0.74 Copyright 2005. Madison Media Software, Inc., a subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America. All rights reserved
mch264dec.dll 1.1.27.0 H.264 Video Decoder Wrapper Copyright© MainConcept AG 2000-2005
h264vout.dll 1.1.24.0 H264 Video Wrapper Copyright© MainConcept AG 2003-2005
sony4vem.dll 2.5.8.23000
it outputs MP4, PSP compatible.since vegas itself is a powerfull video editor, so... :D but the picture quality of SONY AVC is not good, same as the quality that IC2+ outputs.
here's some screenshots of the product

qyqgpower, could you send me information on the exact name and version number of the product?
You may compare it with Elecard Mobile Converter, which contains the full set of new AAC/AVC/MP4 components from Elecard-Mainconcept.

The AVC encoder in Vegas 6 is VERY limited. Unlike the MPEG-2 encoder options that are provided by Main Concept's codec, the AVC codec in Vegas 6 doesn't provide much control. A few bit rates, no CBR choice, no wrapper choice, can't create elementary streams, etc etc.

thx for the info!
what about decoding? does it support main profile (cabac, loop etc...)? or even high profile?

Well, now Vegas 6d which was released today supports full HD resolutions and bitrates for H.264 AVC encoding. Aparently they are using Mainconcepts older version (1) since Base and Main profile are available (no High).
But its an improvement. :)

yes, just import your media from the file>import> dvd camcorder (all you is point it to your unprotected DVD (hd or dvd rom) and it adds it to the media pool. Drag to timeline and then render as H.264 AVC. ) No 5.1 sound though.
