I bought a cable that connects s-video to rca so i could watch movies on my tv from my computer. When i plug it in, my computer doesnt recognize its there and the tv just flickers when i try to use it. Someone else had another cable which was pretty much the same thing and it works fine, also if i plug my friends cable in, set up the tv connection, then undo it and plug in mine it works fine. It seems like it just wont recognize the s-video connection from my cable. Is there anything i can do to fix it?

Return your cable to the place of purchase and exchange it for the same one your friend has...

(If the one you presently have IS the same as the one your friend has, it's obviously defective)

Your video card may need a certain cable to auto-detect something plugged in - I know my ATI does. Right-click the desktop (not on an icon) and select Properties, choose the Settings tab, and right-click the screen that's greyed out. You should have the option to enable it and the TV display will come on.
