[Edit] Ateme version removed.

This matrix is trageted at 1cd backups, or lower bitrate encodes. I would recomend using -3 deblocking strength with this matrix, accept at very low bitrates. Most of the testing I did was using the Ateme encoder, so I am interested in how well it will do with X.264.

Also, thank you Sharktooth for including my matrix in your X.264 builds. When the download link expires it will be available as part of his X.264 installer.

you can safely drop the ateme version. the latest beta encoder supports the standard JM matrices.

EDIT: I added your low bitrate matrix to my x264 builds.

Could this matrix help in low bitrate anime content? For 640x480, what would be "low bitrate" for it?

I don't have any anime to test with, so I'm not completely sure. It should lower the amount of blocks and keep some types of details a little better. It should help with most bitrates under ~1000 (higher then this and Sharktooths matrix is most likely better). At really low bitrates less then ~256kbps it won't be that useful. Of course this is assuming average compressability and those numbers could go up or down a bit depending upon your source
