Hi all,

My P4 2.8 GHz HT based computer has assumed permanent room temperature. :( I am looking for suggestions for my new system. Preferably somewhere in the mid priced range. I will need a new chip, board, fan, memory chips and case. My old case is probably still good but I will buy a new one just to be safe. :thanks:

Thanks for the interest. Decided to go with a P4 3.0 with 1 gig of DDR memory. Chip, Cooling fan, Board, Memory and case will cost $459.00. All of my other hardware has been tested and is in excellent working order.

I was going to say seeing as how you have temperator problems to go with AMD but it seems its a bit lat for that now

I didn't have temperature problems. I was just saying my computer had died. I am pretty sure I took a power spike. Not enough to fry everything, but enough to cause real damage.

if thats the cause you realy need a new PSU
do your research fist, if you buy a generic case I know the PSUs in them can cost the case-maker/builder $7CAD
yes seven dollars is the lowest price my A+ teacher has seen them so make sure you buy a decent one with about 20% overwattage and you shouldn't have that problem
that and buy a good ups/powerbar if you don't have on already
they cost alot less than what you paid to replace the dead parts eh? :P
