Ok. I have several videos that I believe are in PAL format that I want to burn to DVD. My DVD authoring software has a built in converter, which is decent enough for my purposes, but it will not convert my file in its current format. My next step was to try and convert from PAL to NTSC separately and then import into my authoring software. I was converting to an m2v file. I was able to do this using CCE and AVIsnyth scripts but there is a problem.

My DVD authoring program allows audio and video to be loaded separately. I figured that this approach was best. Using Virtual Dub I saved the audio from the original file as a wave. I then proceed to convert the video and then load both the audio and converted video into my authoring program. The problem is the audio and video are not longer synched. In fact they are way off. Looking into the problem i noticed something strange. The length of the original video file is say 17m20s, and the audio of course is the same length. However, after converting the video is now say 20m30s. However the audio is obviously still 17m20s which obviously doesn't match up. I tried using a "time stretch" function in an audio editing program to match the 20m30s time, but that did not work. I also tried encoding audio and video together but without success. Any ideas?

Sounds like the methodology you use in attempting to convert the video from PAL to NTSC added frames rather than changing the framerate.

if it's just progressive PAL, you can simply resize it to 720x480 in avisynth and use DGpulldown to change the framerate for you. motion will jitter ever-so-slightly, but no more than a regular 3:2 telecine.

of course, you could just get PAL capable equipment :)

Yes, i considered finding a new DVD authoring program, but, of course, it would require learning something new and my current software is super straight forward, though it does cut back on custimizibility.
